Upselling made easy, let’s talk about money mindset

I used to cringe at the idea of selling retail. Working in department stores and big-brand makeup counters made me think sales had to be pushy and awkward.

But I was wrong. Retail isn’t about forcing products on people—it’s about offering things your clients already need and making their lives easier.

Convenience is king, babe. And people will pay for it.

1. Hair Accessories: A No-Brainer Add-On

Brides and bridal parties LOVE hair accessories, and if you’re not selling them, you’re leaving money on the table. When I was a solo artist, I carried a zip-up pouch full of accessories with me to trials and wedding days.

I had a Square reader on hand, and boom—easy sales. Now that I run a studio, I have a dedicated space where brides can try on pieces during their previews.

Where to Get Accessories:

  • Jay Kay Braids Bridal – Stunning, high-end pieces with wholesale options.
  • Shein & FAIR – Budget-friendly options with variety.
  • Pro Tip: Stock a mix of gold, silver, and rose gold styles. Not every bride wants the same thing!

2. Private Label Makeup: Your Name on the Products

Why send brides to Sephora when you could sell them the perfect lip color yourself? I found Blanca, a private label company that lets me brand my own lip products without huge order minimums.

It’s been a game-changer. During trials, we let brides test out shades, and most of them buy on the spot. If you’re looking for an easy way to add revenue, this is it.

3. Hair Prep & Styling Products: They Already Need Them

Brides always ask what shampoo or conditioner they should use before their big day. Why not be the one selling it to them? Hydrating shampoos, conditioners, and styling products are easy retail wins.

Best Sellers for Us:

  • Moroccan Oil shampoo & conditioner duos (Brides love a matching set.)

  • Deep conditioning treatments (Helps prep their hair for styling.)
  • Texture sprays & shine serums (For that polished final look.)

If you’re licensed, grab these from your salon supply store and stock up. No big minimum orders required.

4. Veil & Extension Rentals: Money Without the Work

Renting out veils and hair extensions is one of my best side-income streams. Some weekends, my rental fees cover half my studio rent.

How It Works:

  • Brides rent a veil or set of extensions for the weekend.
  • They return them after the wedding.
  • You make cash without adding more hours to your schedule.

5. Selling Online: A 24/7 Income Stream

We work with out-of-state brides all the time, and an online store makes it easy for them to shop after their preview. We use Shopify to keep things simple, and it’s been a great way to bring in extra income without doing extra work.

  • Brides forget things. A few days after their trial, they realize they need that hairpiece or lip color. If you have an online store, they can grab it without a hassle.
  • If you don’t want to deal with shipping, offer local pickup as an option.

6. Makeup Classes & Lessons: Weekday Money-Maker

Okay, this one technically is a service, but it’s not wedding-day work. I took a year to develop my makeup classes, and now they’re one of my favorite ways to bring in extra income during slower months.

  • We include pro products & custom face charts.
  • We partnered with Sigma Beauty so clients can buy their favorite products after class.
  • Team owners—this is a great way to give your artists extra earning opportunities!

Final Thoughts

You don’t have to work more weddings to make more money. Retail, rentals, and online sales can bring in extra income without taking up your time. Keep it simple, make it convenient, and start adding in these revenue streams.
